Zainab Adenuga

Student Counsellor, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

As a Nigerian and Yoruba woman, I understand the cultural reservations that can sometimes surround conversations about mental health. In many communities, emotional struggles may be viewed through the lenses of stigma, spirituality, family expectations, or personal strength, making it difficult for individuals to seek professional support. My passion is to help bridge this gap by making mental health conversations more accessible, culturally responsive, and free from shame, both within my culture and beyond.

My therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Narrative Therapy, mindfulness, and culturally responsive practices. I value collaboration, empathy, and the creation of a safe space where clients can explore their experiences without judgment.

I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals navigating life transitions, identity, stress, anxiety, relationships, and the complexities of cultural and intergenerational experiences.

I am most comfortable providing therapy in English and welcome clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

My Philosophy

I believe every person’s story is shaped by their experiences, relationships, culture, and the environments in which they have lived. My clinical and professional background has taught me the importance of listening beyond the presenting concern and understanding the whole person. I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore their experiences without judgment. I view therapy as a collaborative process, supporting clients in developing insight, identifying their strengths, navigating life transitions, and building meaningful relationships with themselves and others. I believe clients are not defined by their challenges; rather, they possess strengths and possibilities that can be nurtured through supportive therapeutic relationships.
